Aprotinin from 5-Diagnostics is a broad-spectrum serine protease inhibitor of bovine lung origin — a Kunitz-type inhibitor with high-affinity inhibitory activity against trypsin, plasmin, kallikrein, urokinase, and Factor XIIa.
In coagulation and fibrinolysis research, aprotinin is used to suppress ex vivo fibrinolysis in plasma samples collected for clotting endpoint measurements, preventing plasmin-mediated fibrinogen degradation and clot lysis artifacts during sample processing and incubation. Aprotinin is also used to investigate the contact activation pathway (kallikrein-Factor XII axis) by selectively inhibiting kallikrein, and as a reference inhibitor for characterizing serine protease activity in chromogenic substrate assay development.
5-Diagnostics aprotinin is supplied as a lyophilized preparation at defined specific inhibitory activity (KIU/mg) with lot-specific certification against trypsin inhibition as the primary reference enzyme. Available in multiple size formats for research-scale and process-development applications.
As a broad serine protease inhibitor, aprotinin will suppress activity of Factor Xa, thrombin, and other coagulation serine proteases — concentrations must be carefully optimized in chromogenic substrate assay systems to achieve selective fibrinolysis inhibition without suppressing target enzyme activity.
