Protein stabilization is critical in chromogenic coagulation assay systems where dilute enzyme concentrations — Factor Xa, thrombin, Protein C activator — must retain full activity across the duration of an analytical run. Surface adsorption, freeze-thaw degradation, and oxidative inactivation are primary failure modes that stabilizers mitigate.
5-Diagnostics protein stabilizer preparations include bovine serum albumin (BSA) at pharmaceutical analytical grade, human serum albumin (HSA) for applications where bovine protein is excluded, and polymer-based stabilizer solutions for coagulation enzyme working solution preparation.
BSA is used as a carrier protein in diluent buffers to prevent adsorptive loss of dilute enzyme and antibody solutions to plastic surfaces — particularly important in 96-well microplate formats where surface area to volume ratios are high.
