TAFI is activated by thrombin/thrombomodulin complexes and inhibits fibrinolysis by removing C-terminal lysine residues from partially degraded fibrin, reducing plasminogen binding.
ZYMUTEST™ TAFI Total measures TAFI zymogen and activated TAFIa equally — high total TAFI is associated with a hypofibrinolytic state and elevated thrombosis risk.
ZYMUTEST™ TAFI Activatable uses a specific monoclonal antibody pair to detect only the activatable TAFI zymogen, distinguishing it from already-cleaved TAFIa. Calibrator values are expressed as percentage of normal pooled human plasma for both assays.
