Protein Z is a vitamin K-dependent coagulation protein that functions as a cofactor for Protein Z-dependent protease inhibitor (ZPI) in the inhibition of Factor Xa.
Low Protein Z levels have been associated with increased venous thromboembolism risk, arterial thrombosis, and adverse pregnancy outcomes including recurrent miscarriage.
ZYMUTEST™ Anti-Protein Z IgG and IgM antibody ELISAs are also available for investigation of auto-antibodies to Protein Z in the context of antiphospholipid syndrome and unexplained pregnancy loss.
