Ampicillin selects for Salmonella typhimurium tester strains carrying the pKM101 plasmid — an error-prone DNA repair plasmid that enhances sensitivity to frameshift and base-pair substitution mutagens in strains TA98, TA100, TA1535, and TA1537. This ready-to-use solution eliminates in-house ampicillin preparation and ensures consistent selective pressure during overnight strain culture.
