TA98 is the primary frameshift mutation detector in the OECD 471 Ames test. It detects mutagens causing -1 or +1 base-pair frameshifts in the histidine biosynthesis gene sequence. TA98 carries pKM101 (ampicillin resistance, enhanced mutagen detection via error-prone repair) and the uvrB deletion (impaired DNA excision repair). Store at -70°C.
