ICR-191 (2-methoxy-6-chloro-9-[3-(2-chloroethyl)aminopropylamino]acridine) positive control mutagen for Ames MPF and Ames II mutagenicity assays. ICR-191 is a direct-acting acridine-based frameshift mutagen that requires no S9 metabolic activation.

ICR-191 intercalates into DNA and induces +1 frameshift mutations, primarily at repetitive GC sequences. It is active on strains carrying the pKM101 error-prone repair plasmid, including TA97a, TA1537, and TA98. ICR-191 complements 9-aminoacridine as an alternative positive frameshift control for pKM101-carrying strains.
