Hamster liver S9 is used preferentially in the Enhanced Ames Test (OECD 471) for nitrosamines, and in ADME pharmacokinetic studies. The distinct cytochrome P450 enzyme profile of hamster S9 enables detection of compounds preferentially bioactivated via hamster-specific metabolic pathways — complementing standard rat S9 for comprehensive species-specific mutagenicity screening.
