YG7108 is a TA98 derivative in which nitroreductase (nfsI) and O-acetyltransferase (oat) genes have been deleted. YG7108 is the isogenic negative control for YG1041.

Compounds mutagenic in YG1041 but not in YG7108 are confirmed to act via nitroreductase and/or O-acetyltransferase pathways. The isogenic YG1041/YG7108 pair enables mechanistic differentiation of:

• Nitroreductase-dependent mutagens (nitroarenes, nitrofurans)
• O-acetyltransferase-dependent mutagens (aromatic amines, heterocyclic amines)
• Non-enzyme-dependent mutagens (positive in both strains)
