ALPIC 2012 will be organized by the University of Ioannina, under the auspices of the Hellenic Society of Cardiology and the Mediterranean League Against Thromboembolic Diseases. This scientific event has an educational character and the programme is structured aiming to serve as a knowledge transfer forum for scientists in the various aspects of the research on Platelets and Thrombosis ranging from the basic science to the clinical practice. ALPIC 2012 will highlight the rapid development and ongoing evolution in various topics of Platelet research including Platelet biology, Platelet function testing, the Platelet involvement in inflammation, atherosclerosis and artery wall regeneration. The important role of Platelets in the thrombotic complications of plaque rupture as well as in stent thrombosis will be also discussed. ALPIC 2012 will also highlight current knowledge in Antiplatelet and Anticoagulant therapy in patients with cardiovascular disease and will present recent advances in the development of new inhibitors of Platelet activation as well as new Anticoagulants. An internationally recognized panel of invited speakers will present state-of-the-art lectures on the above scientific fields and will create an excellent opportunity to stimulate an extended and very constructive discussion both inside and outside the meeting room. The magnificent location and the picturesque landscapes offered by Metsovo, will add to the scientific quality of the presentations, making this event a remarkable one for all participants.
